Liz Murphy is a British-born abstract artist whose work captures the feeling of an experience rather than its literal reality. She trained in Graphic Design at Kingston University in London and brings more than four decades of creative experience to her practice, balancing a strong instinct for composition and colour with an increasingly intuitive, exploratory approach. She teaches and mentors artists in colour, contrast, and composition.

The Smell of Autumn captures that fleeting moment when summer begins to loosen its grip and the landscape quietly shifts toward fall. Rich, earthy greens, deep aubergines and smoky blues are interrupted by flashes of coral, burnt orange and pink, creating a sense of warmth still lingering beneath the changing season.

Rather than depicting a landscape literally, the painting evokes the sensory memory of autumn, the dampness of the earth, fading flowers, turning leaves and that unmistakable change in the air. Layers of gestural marks, scratched lines and overlapping shapes suggest fragments of nature observed and remembered rather than described.

There is both abundance and transition here: a landscape still bursting with life, yet beginning to turn inward. The Smell of Autumn is less about what autumn looks like than what it feels like when you first sense it arriving.
